Music and evening funeral in the fokontany of ambodihady ambohimanarina

The omnipresence of music in all the circumstances of Malagasy life is still relevant today. Music is a whole, brings everything together, links everything through its vocal and instrumental expressions. This study examines the role of music in the ritual of funeral at Ambodihady Ambohimanarina. Objective, this study attempts to analyze in a holistic approach, the participants or the public, the musicians, the functions and the funeral practices related to them. It particularly aims to reveal the socio-cultural dimension of funeral vigils during which the bonds undone by death are welded through funeral songs. The music in the wake rituals offers an emotional dimension between the different participants in other words the music, being an integral part of the funeral ritual, brings together the community in symbolic union, in a perpetual quest for the meaning of our life on earth.
