239 The word vazimba has always evoked a series of overlapping images in our shared past. It's one of those concepts that are taken for granted and no longer deserve our time. However, it seems that some questions remain unanswered, despite the attempts of some scholars to assert its identity and origin. Since March 2023, a small team of volunteers has been trying to find some answers based on currently available documents and recent personal works. It soon became clear that we needed to gather information directly from descendants of the Vazimba, or those who identified themselves as such. In order to remove some of the doubts, our team is proposing to define their genetic map anonymously, subject to their consent. This pilot project in the Central Highlands region will be extended to all Vazimba in the country, depending on the resources available. One of our goals is to put an end to this degrading description of the physical aspects of our famous shared ancestors.
