Study of the clove supply system (Syzygium aromaticum L.) in Madagascar

171 As the world's top exporter and second largest producer of cloves, Madagascar is known for the good quality of its clove products, particularly its cloves. However, its exportation is subject to many factors such as price instability, product quality, and production variation. In the face of this situation, exporters must adopt new strategies. This study highlights the analysis of a product supply system to ensure the needs of exporters in terms of quantity and quality.
A case study of a one of the top 5 exporters in Madagascar was conducted to analyze how his system is effective and innovative. The methodology is based on the data collection from its exports and its supply mode during the period 2018 - 2022. A comparative analysis of the different suppliers of this exporter during this period, the quantity of cloves exported, and the price trend was conducted. It was found that this operator's collection system has allowed him to maintain him reputation in this sector, with his export volume increasing from 300 tons in 2018 to 4,000 tons in 2022. Thus, the innovation of his supply system supply enabled him to evolve in his activity.
